Magnificent Molinari named European Golfer of the Year

Francesco Molinari has been named European Golfer of the Year following his stellar 2018. Molinari became Italy’s first major champion when he triumphed at the Open Championship, finishing two clear of four players – including Justin Rose and Rory McIlroy at Carnoustie. McVay ‘sick’ over offensive failings as Rams coach takes blame for loss

Sean McVay said he felt “sick” about the Los Angeles Rams’ inability to take advantage of a strong defensive performance in a loss to the Chicago Bears that he blamed on himself. The Rams slumped to only their second defeat of another excellent campaign for McVay, who secured a playoff spot in his first season in charge and has steered them to a second successive NFC West title this year, with a 15-6 loss at Soldier Field. McVay’s men have scored 425 points this season, the Rams coach seen as one of the masterminds of an offensive explosion in the NFL in recent years.

I feel for him… we’ll make it work – Butler responds to Embiid’s frustration

Philadelphia 76ers recruit Jimmy Butler understands Joel Embiid’s unhappiness after the All-Star voiced his frustration with his role. Embiid lamented his role in the 76ers’ offense since Butler was acquired from the Minnesota Timberwolves in November, having sat out Friday’s NBA win at the Detroit Pistons. Philadelphia’s Embiid has struggled for form after he was just five-of-17 from the field for 10 points in a loss to the Eastern Conference-leading Toronto Raptors on December 5.

Cousins believes Vikings have more potential ahead of Seattle trip

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins sees potential in his team as they fight to qualify for the NFL playoffs. Minnesota have just four regular-season games remaining and hold the sixth seed in the NFC, while the Seahawks are fifth. “I do think that we can point to sometimes throughout the year where we’ve underachieved, not because we weren’t giving effort or preparation, but we just haven’t been able to sustain the level of potential in this locker room, play in and play out,” Cousins said.

DeChambeau, Na share lead with two other teams at QBE Shootout

Bryson DeChambeau and Kevin Na opened with a first-round 59 to share the QBE Shootout lead with two other teams on Friday. The PGA Tour’s December break is soon coming to an end, but not before it closes out with the QBE Shootout — an unofficial money team event held in Florida. A limited field of golfers make the trip to the Tiburon Golf Club and this year’s tournament features 10-time LPGA winner Lexi Thompson.

Schwartzel storms to top of South African Open leaderboard

Charl Schwartzel powered to the top of the leaderboard at the South African Open as he carded Friday’s best round with an eight-under 63. The home hope, who has won eight of his 11 European Tour titles on South African soil, shot two birdies on the front nine before hitting his stride after the turn on the Bushwillow Course to go 12 under for the tournament. Birdies at 11, 12, 14 and 16 were followed by an eagle at the penultimate hole, lifting Schwartzel to a one-shot lead over Madalitso Muthiya, who went eight under at Bushwillow on Thursday but could only manage a round of 68 on Firethorn.
