Bourdais wins IndyCar opener in St Petersburg in major upset (The Associated Press)

Sebastien Bourdais believed he could drive for tiny Dale Coyne Racing and really make a difference for a race team that has little chance against the big guns in IndyCar. Bourdais and Boisson teamed to win four races for KVSH. This squad showed Sunday it has the potential to be a major player this season in IndyCar.

Will Power wins pole again at St. Pete for IndyCar opener (The Associated Press)

Will Power won the pole for IndyCar's season-opening race at St. Petersburg, proving he still is the best driver at navigating the temporary street circuit. It was a record seventh pole in eight years at St. Pete for Power, who also won the pole for this race last year. Power ran the course Saturday in his Team Penske Chevrolet with a lap of 1 minute, 1.0640 seconds (106.118 mph).

The best season of Marco Andretti's career was 11 years ago when he was a raw, unproven rookie without a care in the world. Just three days away from his 30th birthday, Andretti wants to be that driver again. The way Andretti figures it, he stopped being that carefree kid and let the pressure of living up to expectations eat away at him.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -- IndyCar has signed multi-year extensions with all four of its major partners, including engine makers Chevrolet and Honda.

Roger Penske really couldn't ask for much more from his IndyCar team after a year in which his drivers went 1-2-3 in the standings and Simon Pagenaud earned his first series championship. ''You are fighting with your brothers, and you have to be friendly because you live together, and if you want to keep your job you have to be friendly,'' Pagenaud said in an interview with The Associated Press. ''But on the race track, you are fighting for wins, and Roger wants us to win.

Former CART champion Jimmy Vasser has shut down his IndyCar team after 14 years and seven victories, including the 2013 Indianapolis 500. KV Racing Technology, owned by Australian businessman Kevin Kalkhoven and Vasser, announced the long-rumored move Thursday. It's possible Vasser and the team's third partner, James Sullivan, will be involved in another effort for the Indy 500 in May.

Steak ‘n Shake stays on board with Rahal for 4 races in 2017 (The Associated Press)

IndyCar driver Graham Rahal will continue to have Steak 'n Shake as his primary sponsor for four races in 2017. Rahal Lanigan Racing made the announcement Wednesday. The familiar logo will appear on Rahal's No. 15 car at the season opener in St. Petersburg, the Indianapolis 500, Mid-Ohio and St. Louis.

Ex-head of Boston Indy bid charged with kicking photographer (The Associated Press)

The former chief executive of the failed effort to bring IndyCar racing to Boston has been charged with kicking a news photographer in a courthouse hallway. John Casey was freed on $1,200 bail after pleading not guilty to assault and battery with a dangerous weapon at his arraignment Thursday in Salem. Prosecutors say the 53-year-old Casey swore at reporters and kicked a Boston Herald photographer in the arm Wednesday after leaving a courtroom following a hearing on a civil matter.

Last fall, James Hinchcliffe kept dance fans on their toes. Now he's hoping those memorable moves help the IndyCar Series take an even bigger step - expanding its audience. Less than two months after surprisingly toe-tapping his way to a runner-up finish on the hit show ''Dancing With The Stars,'' the popular Canadian driver returned to Indianapolis to explain how his performances could drive ratings.

IndyCar keeps Firestone on board with contract extension (The Associated Press)

The IndyCar Series has reached a multiyear contract extension with longtime tire supplier Firestone. Since 2000, it has been IndyCar's sole tire manufacturer. Series officials hope additional tires puts more cars on the track for practices, boosting fan interest.
